Presidential criticism (excerpt from article by The Washington Post)

Criticisms of the president:

About the president acting unilaterally, without seeking advice or consent: “The incompetence of his administration [has not stopped] it from vigorously defending the president’s sole authority to control the execution of the law.”

About the president’s response to crisis: “He acted with his usual strong determination, dogged stubbornness and confused insight.”

About the president’s mangling of the English language: “It reminds me of stale bean soup, of college yells, of dogs barking idiotically through endless nights. It is so bad that a sort of grandeur creeps into it . . . It is rumble and bumble. It is flap and doodle. It is balder and dash.”

A lot from the one and only George Carlin

Clip is nineteen minutes long. Being Carlin, language is probably not suitable for work.

Purported actual label instructions on consumer goods.

On a Sears hairdryer:
Do not use while sleeping.

On a bag of Fritos:
You could be a winner! No purchase necessary. Details inside. (the shoplifter special)?

On a bar of Dial soap:
Directions: Use like regular soap. (and that would be how???….)

Mayhem on the Mall

Jeff is a big Marx Brothers fan. He was one of the first to console Groucho after he lost a tremendous sum of money on the stock market after the big crash. I think what draws Jeff to the Marx Brothers, as well as politics, is the tremendous amount of chaos that ensues in both of them.

This past month was full of anniversaries of tragic events in U.S. history. And those anniversaries, like the events themselves, were a time of mayhem in our current political climate. And Jeff couldn’t help himself, but partake in the winding up of chaos.

The “missing chapter” from Empire is clearly an homage to Marx Brothers/Keystone Cops esque chase scenes. The same sort of thing later showed up in episodes of Scooby Doo. Jeff was out looking for something as ridiculous as the tail chasing that passes for leadership in the highest echelons of our government, and this is just where he had to go to find it. It’s also possible that he was trying to find a pirated copy of the un-”enhanced” version of A New Hope, and just grabbed the wrong thing.

Jeff also wrote a vast number of sketches for Abbott and Costello. I can only imagine his surprise when searching a bit of his former glory to find it appropriated and used in reference to the President. I can also imagine his psychotic glee at finding such a thing.

While Jeff is a fan of chaotic movies, sometimes his limited attention span can get in the way of his enjoyment of them. And a re-enactment of Pulp Fiction by bunnies is just about his speed, as well as being pretty damn funny. It let’s us get right to all of the important bits, but I must say I would have liked to see a bunny version of Esmerelda Villa Lobos. But that’s probably just me.

Tune in tomorrow when Jeff posts some footage of the President where you can actually see Brian Henson’s head as he works George’s controls.
