The Simpsons intro. . . maybe a movie to follow?
Makes me shudder just to think about it.
![]() | Drunken PumpkinAmusing Ourselves | We seem to have a compulsion these days to bury time capsules in order to give those people living in the next century or so some idea of what we are like. I have prepared one of my own. I have placed some rather large samples of dynamite, gunpowder, and nitroglycerin. My time capsule is set to go off in the year 3000. It will show them what we are really like. ~ Alfred Hitchcock |

The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who have not got it. ~ George Bernard Shaw
Where else can you find a home brewing recipe followed by allegations of sex abuse by a member of Congress? Jeff really does work to have a little something for everyone.
The great irony I see in Foley’s conduct is the fact that he was on a caucus for missing and exploited children and then saw fit to send sexually explicit emails to children. One of our commenters rightly pointed out that the age of consent in both jurisdictions involved is 16 and these folks were over that age. It just strikes me as dubiously ethical to mix a concern for children being exploited and something that could be seen as exploitation. As a college instructor it is perfectly legal for me to date my former students, but ethically that is very shaky ground as that is an abuse of my position of power. Just imagine how escalated that power dynamic is when you are dealing with a member of the House of Representatives.
I haven’t checked to see if Mr. Foley is up for re-election this November, but I wonder if this incident will crop up again when it’s his turn on the ballot.
While Jeff was out looking for more info on exploited children he came across that bus puzzle. That puzzle was clearly used to exploit children in an attempt to remind all of us adults that we think over most problems way too much. I know I sat and stared at that stupid graphic for a few minutes before just guessing and looking up the answer. What a horrible way to use the innocence of 4 year olds.
