Some issues and overtones of Saddam’s execution by hanging to be aware of.

The execution was held on the first day Sunni Arabs observe the Eid al-Adha holiday and just four days after the appeals section of the Iraqi High Tribunal confirmed Saddam’s death sentence.

The execution sidestepped an Iraqi law prohibiting executions on holidays by holding the execution before dawn, when Eid al-Adha begins.

Another law requiring the signatures of the president and two vice presidents on any death warrant was struck down as not applying to any sentence handed down by the Iraqi High Tribunal, clearing another hurdle for the execution as Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, an opponent of the death penalty, had stated in the past that he would not sign any such warrant.

Drunken Pumpkin Blizzard

I don’t think I have ever seen that much white space on the page. It’s a little bit scary to be honest. Maybe the page moved to Denver for the New Year.

Well, I know what Jeff was up to Yesterday. He spent it sleeping off a night of watching people eat garlic on graham crackers and play solitaire. It’s his own little holiday tradition that he’s been trying to catch on with his friends and family, but so far he hasn’t had any luck on that front. I think that may be where the T.S. Eliot quote plays into things. But probably it’s closer to Lily Tomlin.

Tune in tomorrow when the white space will be filled with flashy movies and my inane ramblings once again.
