It’s exciting to find a story about a true hero

Hero (’hir-o):
a) a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities
b) one that shows great courage

Thanks to overusage in American culture, no longer conveys the nobility of altruistic risk and/or sacrifice for another human being. Wesley Autrey is a hero. Mr. Autrey was standing on a subway platform in NYC with his two daughters when a nineteen year old young man suffered a seizure and fell onto the subway tracks. Mr. Autrey leapt onto the tracks, grabbed the young man, and after realizing he could not drag the young man to safety before they were hit by an oncoming train, dragged them both to a position between the rails, pinning the young man to the ground and managing to keep both of them safe despite the subway car passing directly over his head.

Here’s to hoping that this is not the last we see or hear of Mr. Autrey - there really should be accolades and honors bestowed on this man.

But… Where are the Flashy Movies?

Jeff apparently didn’t read my post yesterday. I suppose that is only fair, since I didn’t read most of his for the past week or so. But I specifically mention flashy movies. And what do we get? Socially relevant commentary. That’s no good.

We are, in fact, a humor site. It’s hard to imagine anything surrounding the execution of Saddam Hussein as being funny. But Jeff gave it a shot, and now it’s my job to explain the humor. You see, Saddam’s death was the very picture of irony. We took him out of power for being a vicious bastard that stepped on ideas like due process to get his way. Meanwhile we circumvent pretty much every aspect of due process that we can to get this man killed.

And that’s just where the fun begins. Somehow one of the guards managed to smuggle out a video of Saddam’s death. Now, we can be just like all of those terrorists that we’re fighting and show people just what it is we do to our opponents.

Honk if you love peace and quiet indeed.

Tune in tomorrow for a new soap box and clean sheets.
