It’s exciting to find a story about a true hero
Hero (’hir-o):
a) a man admired for his achievements and noble qualities
b) one that shows great courage
Thanks to overusage in American culture, no longer conveys the nobility of altruistic risk and/or sacrifice for another human being. Wesley Autrey is a hero. Mr. Autrey was standing on a subway platform in NYC with his two daughters when a nineteen year old young man suffered a seizure and fell onto the subway tracks. Mr. Autrey leapt onto the tracks, grabbed the young man, and after realizing he could not drag the young man to safety before they were hit by an oncoming train, dragged them both to a position between the rails, pinning the young man to the ground and managing to keep both of them safe despite the subway car passing directly over his head.
Here’s to hoping that this is not the last we see or hear of Mr. Autrey - there really should be accolades and honors bestowed on this man.
