More on the history of Daylight Savings Time

In 1918 Congress placed the USA on Daylight Saving Time but it was so widely disliked they repealed the legislation, and didn’t introduce it again until WWII.

A Little Too Opposed To DST

While I was out trying to find some kind of evidence that Daylight Saving Time did something other than annoy me and everyone I know I found an amusing little tidbit about Pulaski county.

Okay, I don’t like DST. But the idea of simply rejecting it strikes me as a little strange. Time only works if we all agree (which is one of the reasons I dislike DST, but that’s another rant) and if now a small contingent of your community is using one time zone and the rest are in another all you have is chaos. I work in multiple time zones, myself. I can’t imagine having to ask someone what their personal time zone was so I could make an appointment.

I wonder if any relationships were made or destroyed over this in Pulaski. “Oh, Harold, I never would have married you if I knew you were on Central time. You’ve ruined my life!”
Or
“Betsy, I never thought I’d meet a gal that loved Eastern Time as much as I did.”

I can’t stand the idea of DST, but I dislike not being able to show up on time to things without complicated math even more.

Tune in tomorrow when I talk about all of the economic boons of using DST.
