In contemplation of reality ~ H.P. Lovecraft

Sometimes I believe that this less material life is our truer life, and that our vain presence on the terraqueous globe is itself the secondary or merely virtual phenomenon.

Completely Unrelated to Cthulhu or HPL

My wife found this article about knitting penguin jumpers and was sad that she missed her chance to take part.

I’m sad that I can’t find footage of someone trying to put a sweater on a penguin.

Although my wife did find some pics of penguins in sweaters.

Lovecraft Historical Society

If anyone should have had some interesting things to say about the anniversary of Lovecraft’s death I think it’s the Lovecraft Historical Society. And sure enough, they do. But it is a little hard to tell.

I stumbled on these folks some time ago. I have been quite tempted to buy the CD for Shoggoth on the Roof, but just haven’t quite made it there. Yet.

What I like most about these guys is they don’t take this stuff too seriously. Lovecraft’s stories were about madness and death. Usually both on a grand scale, say… most of the world. And it’s clear that a lot of Lovecraft’s work invites parody. Mike Mignola’s Hellboy is very much so a parody based loosely around Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythos. However, some folks could end up taking some of this nonsense seriously. Anton LeVay actually mentions Ktulu as a god/demon in the Satanist Rituals. While I’m sure that Levay was just pulling people’s chain in order to get more money and sex, other people might not get the joke.

Here’s some friendly advice: Don’t listen to Byakhee Byakhee when you’re going to be without a radio for a while. It will stick in your head almost as much as MnahMnah.

Tune in tomorrow for more dread horror. Or something.
