In a quart of water bring 4 cups of red cabbage to a boil.
Place 4 eggs, in shell, in the cabbage water in an attempt to dye them blue.
Simmer on low heat for 15 minutes.
Fail to turn eggs blue.
In a fit of frugality, add potato, ham, onion, and spices.
Boil until potatoes are fork tender.
Have egg salad sandwiches for lunch the next day.
