The difficulties inherent to Buddhism. . .

…can be summed up succinctly: “The rest of the world is not Buddhist.”

Buddhist monks, who are bound by faith to nonviolence, are grappling with how to rid a temple of a severe ant infestation without killing the insects.

Stinging red ants have plagued the Hong Hock See Temple in northern Penang state for a year, causing one worshipper to be bitten so badly last month that he had to receive hospital treatment, said Elma Lin, a temple volunteer worker.

A temple disciple tried using a vacuum cleaner to gather up the ants before freeing them in a nearby forest, but the method failed to purge the insects, Lin said.

The diligence of US Customs

I don’t have any idea if it’s real or not, but I’m tickled that I believe it might be. Below is what appears to be the US Customs form that had to be filled out upon the return of the astronauts who flew Apollo 11 to the moon.

A Bacon Myth Busted

Like a large part of the country I operate under the assumption that everything tastes better with bacon. (unless, of course, you’re a vegetarian, and then all bets are off.) Well, I’m sad to say that I discovered something that shattered that assumption for me.

As I mentioned yesteday, I am moving. Consequently, we haven’t really bought any food lately. Instead we have been living on take out and leftovers. Well, after a visit to the friendly local IHOP we had some leftovers, a piece of banana stuffed french toast and some bacon. (I have no idea how bacon survived.)

This morning as I prepared to start up my moving frenzy once more, I ate the IHOP leftovers. The time that the bacon had spent in the company of the banana slices had tainted the bacon ever so slightly, thus I had bananan flavored bacon for breakfast this morning. And I have to say that I highly recomend not having that particular taste explosion. Further, I’m thinking I may need to reconsider the position that everything tastes better with bacon. An addendum may be necessary, such as … except fruit. But I’m willing to be wrong there. Drop us a line in the comments or through the contact info and let me know if you have any good bacon and fruit recipes, and we’ll stick them on the page.

Stay tuned, I told you this was going to be a peculiar week.
