Thought for the day ~ Lewis Carroll

“When I use a word,” Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, “it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.”
“The question is,” said Alice, “whether you can make words mean so many different things.”
“The question is,” said Humpty Dumpty, “which is to be master — that’s all.”

Thought for the day ~ Art Buchwald

Whether it’s the best of times or the worst of times, it’s the only time we’ve got.

Thought for the day ~ Benjamin Franklin

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Who says protesting doesn’t get you anywhere?

A couple arrested at a rally after refusing to cover T-shirts that bore anti-President Bush slogans settled their lawsuit against the federal government for $80,000, the American Civil Liberties Union announced Thursday.

The ACLU said in a statement that a presidential advance manual makes it clear that the government tries to exclude dissenters from the president’s appearances. “As a last resort,” the manual says, “security should remove the demonstrators from the event.”

Thought for the day ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

If the fires of freedom and civil liberties burn low in other lands they must be made brighter in our own. If in other lands the press and books and literature of all kinds are censored, we must redouble our efforts here to keep them free. If in other lands the eternal truths of the past are threatened by intolerance we must provide a safe place for their perpetuation.

Missing Thought for the Days

I realized I apparently haven’t been thinking much for the past few days - you’d think that after doing this for over a year it would have become habit, but I have too many habits as it is, can’t justify adding another one to the collection currently.

Anyway, to make up for my lack of thought I’ll be posted a couple a day (still only the good ones) to provide some new information for rumination.

Site tests shareware download sites…

This guy created a text file and filled it with statements like, “This program does nothing at all.”

He then changed the file type to an .exe (executable), and submitted it to a number of shareware software sites.

His program has received awards from 16 sites so far, while only 3 sites contacting him back regarding the bogus program.

His full accounting of this Internet experiment, as well as the names of the sites that actually looked at what had been submitted, are available at SuccessfulSoftware.net

Link Finds Zelda

I remember the last time I played Legend of Zelda. I was in sixth grade, I think and it was on the original NES. I never could really get into the game. However, Jo Kyo Nim Ring is a big fan so I grabbed this group and took their picture. Granted, I’m also assuming that this is actually supposed to be Link and Zelda, which is a complete guess. I have no idea who the other chick is.
