Sweeney Todd’s Giant Eyes of Doom
I went to see Sweeney Todd the other night. I’m not really a big fan of musicals, but with sufficient bloodletting you can get over the absurdity of people communicating by song.
From the looks of the film the only direction Tim Burton gave was, “can you make your eyes a little bigger. No, bigger, like they’re going to fall out of your head.” Lots of big eyes in that film. In fact, the eyes were so big I think even Osamu Tezuka would have been proud.
We got to the theater a little late, and missed all of the commercials. I don’t mind the fact that theaters hawk other movies, or even overpriced popcorn, when I go see a film. However, it has become the normal state of affairs to try to sell me a car, or a cable company when I hit the theater. What the hell is that all about? If I wanted to see ads with my film, I’d just wait for the damn thing to show up on TV. I’m really getting tired of paying for the privilege to watch an ad. That’s why we’re cancelling cable when we move. The very notion of paying extra for something you get for free is just absurd. Maybe I won’t get to see as many reruns of CSI as I’ve grown used to, but that can only be for the best. I spend all of my work hours around criminals, not to mention the inmates, so do I really need more exposure to people of questionable morals?
Tune in next time to hear Jeff say, “Ni!”.
Still too Much Time in Front of the Tube
Okay, the Dominoes commercial with the 30 Minute ab thing is just bloody disturbing.
I think what happened was that they cut out the last line from the original take. If you listen carefully I’m sure you can hear the ab guy start to say, “So, you wanna have sex now?” Seriously, give it another listen, right there at the end.
See-popeye doesn’t like anime either!
